21 July 1874 — Venice | |
Tuesday. 21st July [1874]. We had a visit from Mr Rawdon Brown & he insisted on carrying us off at once to call on Css Marcello that she might tell us abt the bathing. We found her & she advised us to go to the Lido by the 4 o’cl: steamer to see it so we met her there & went but I did not bathe– There is a charming establishment built over the water on wooden piles—the women bathe one side & the men the other in the middle are waiting rooms restaurants & a terrace. We took coffee & then returned home—dined & went to the Piazza in the eveng. | |
