5 August 1874 — Venice
Wednesday. 5th August [1874]. I got up ¼ to 7 & started with Dentoni for the Lido. Henry complained of sore throat & did not get up. We had not got very far when we saw it was raining in the distance so we turned home & got just in time to escape the storm. There was a tremendous thunderstorm which lasted 3 hours. In the afternoon Henry got better & we went to Salviati’s. Came home & had tea together & I painted & had lesson. We dined in doors & did not go out in the eveng but Henry gave me a lesson in piequet. Went early to bed. Css Marcello came to see us in the afternoon.
