8 August 1874 — Venice | |
Saturday. 8th [August 1874]. Lido as usual. At one we went to call of Pss Clary but did not see her as she was at breakfast. We called at Salviati’s & then went home as I was expecting the Soranzo children at 2. Css S. Conce, Carmelita & Tomaso came. Sr Frizzoni came to call to ask for news of Morelli but we had none to give. At 4 we went back to Salviati’s & then I returned and painted & the old man came. We dined a little earlier today in order to dine by daylight. After dinner I put on a Spanish mantilla & we went to Css Marcello where a good many people came to see the flag the Venetian ladies are going to present tomorrow to the “Venezia” wh function we are also invited to witness. But having seen the flag we are satisfied as we cannot bathe &c all in time to start for the Admiralty at 11. There were several ladies there. Pss Clary, Pss Papadopoli, Marquesa de Carito &c &c we came home early. There was a great deal of lightening all the eveng. | |
