29 August 1874 — Milan
Saturday. 29th [August 1874]. I went out early with Henry & we went to the Exhibition which is open here this year. Found it did not open so early so we went to Mme Arrigoni’s to see her lace but bought none it being so dear—then went back to the Exn wh was most interesting as many families having contributed fine things– When we went back to the hotel for luncheon we found Morelli expecting us—& after lunch he took us to Frizzoni’s rooms where we saw a good many of Morelli’s pictures & then went to Baslini’s (the picture dealer’s) to see a picture wh was for sale & wh Morelli wants the National Gallery to buy. We dined at the table d’hôte with Morelli & then went to Cova’s for ices.
