12 October 1874 — Madrid | |
Monday. 12th [October 1874]. One of our horses broke his knee yesterday so I could not have the carriage so did not go out. The La Rochefoucaulds having suddenly & unexpectedly returned here to his post she & her daughters called on me this afternoon. Later came the Aylton girls & then the La Puentes. We had a great official dinner tonight at the Presidencia given in Henry’s honor. There was a thunderstorm in the night. | |
