7 January 1875 — Madrid | |
Thursday. 7th January [1875]. Mr Hunt & Maffei (who happened to called) breakfasted with us. I worked copying despatches all the morning. The messenger started tonight. The 2 Ayltons came to work at their tulle sleeves. At 4 Bernadine went away & I & Louise worked on– Louise stayed & dined with us– At 9.30 we went to a party at Koudriaffskys where were all the corps dip. & Mme La Romana the Ayltons & Ct of Vistahermosa. There were 2 cakes to try who shd be King & Queen of the Bran. Louise Aylton became Queen. Mr Ortega King—there was also a lottery. We stayed till 12 & then took the Ayltons home. | |
