Friday. 25th June [1875]. We bathed. Weather dull. At 2 we went to Guggenheim & from thence I went to draw. While there I heard the guns saluting wh told that our Fleet had arrived under Adl Sir James Drummond– When I got home I found that it was so. The Hercules, Devastation & Pallas had come but were lying out at sea the Helicon with the Adl, Lady Drummond & 3 girls was off the Piazza. The consul Mr Smallwood came in an English boat to tell Henry & so he went back with him to the Helicon. After dinner we met them on the Piazza. I found them dull & heavy to get on with.
