18 July 1875 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 18th [July 1875]. Went to Favorita to bathe. Feast of the Redentore one of the greatest feasts of Venice. The moveable bridge was up across the Grand Canal & the Giudecca to the church of the Redentore. There was a great storm in the afternoon. We rowed out late to leave cards & to see the bridges. In the eveng abt 9 we went to Css Papadopoli’s house near the station where there is a nice garden. It was too damp & chilly to remain in the garden so we adjourned to a kind of conservatory where there was a piano—somebody played & dancing began. We remained only till 10.
