Tuesday. 23rd November [1875]. We have been here 6 years today & have had more than eno’ of this country—the climate is most trying owing to the sudden & constant changes of temperature & Henry is worried by the unbusinesslike ways, duplicity & dishonesty of the Spaniards. I had a bad cold & did not go out but painted all the morng. I had lesson of Esquivel. In the afternoon Emilia came & sat with me. A visit from the Marquesa de los dos Hermanos who was a Mlle Bisso—niece of Mme Montijo. Her husband has distinguished himself by translating Shakespeare into Spanish after a fashion. Emilia went away abt 6 oclock– My cold was bad & I retired early. | |
