24 November 1875 — Madrid
Wednesday. 24th [November 1875]. Went to breakfast with Dss de la Torre. It was bitterly cold. Afterwards I went to see Lady Walsham. At 3 I went downstairs to see a pair of grey horses wh had been brought for us to buy. Painted a little. Mr Underdown came to 5 o’cl tea. Sr Canova del Castillo called. He told Henry he was likely to be Minister for F.A.s in Ponton’s place. He is not prepossessing, he is stout & not very tall & squints with both eyes. He has a broad square head.
