29 November 1875 — Madrid
Monday. 29th [November 1875]. The papers say there was a fine Aurora Borealis last night wh prognosticates a hard winter—it is certainly very cold now—tho’ today as it rained it was somewhat milder. I painted in the morng but it was too dark to do much. At 2 we drove out—went to call on the Dukes of Fernan Nunez who returned to Madrid yesterday & went & walked in the mud of the Recolletos & Fuente. A few people came in the eveng amongst whom was Ct Morphy, Bss Greindl, Hatzfeldt, Mr Gustenberg, Sr Figuerola (Prim’s Minister of Finance).
