1 December 1875 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 1st December [1875]. I went to breakfast with the Dss de la Torre. At one I went to the Walshams & waited there until they had lunched when I brought off Mrs Scarlett we went & bought some thread &c & we came home & Mrs Scarlett taught me to make the square lace laces. At 5 she went home. I had to dress early & we went to dine at Ct Greppi’s being invited for 6.30. Met there the Bauers & d’Antas, Mr Alcon (Italian Consul), M. Pritchard (a Neapolitan) & M. Weil. Greppi took me in to dinner & Bauer sat on my right. Ida Bauer took the foot of the table. We stayed talking after dinner till abt 9.30 when we took our leave intending to go to the Bauers who had gone home—but when we got out we found it snowing so we went home & read by the fire. | |
