9 December 1875 — Madrid
Thursday. 9th December [1875]. Henry has a bad cold. I am better. We hear that Clarita who had a bad cough when here on Saturday night was in great danger on Tuesday with pneumonia in both lungs– Mrs Scarlett came to see me & said their servants were ill & the black servant had a threatening of a fièvre irruptie & they were all ready to leave Madrid tomorrow if necessary. Emilia came to see us & sat with us some time working. She left at 5.30 & Henry felt so ill that he then went to bed. I sat in his room & wrote letters. I dined in the boudoir & sat with Henry the rest of the eveng. At abt 9 Mr Hunt came to ask my advice. He said his little boy had fallen down & broken his leg. I recommended him to call a surgeon & he went off in search of one. Henry rather better at night.
