2 February 1876 — Madrid
Wednesday. 2nd [February 1876]. Answered a heap of letters. At 2 went out with Henry who walked a little in the Fuente & we were home by 3.30. Had a lot of visitors. The Sras de Centurion—Ludolf who stayed & prosed & stuttered an hour. Then came Ct Morphy but he had not been here a moment when Serrano came & the 2 others decamped. The news from the Carlist war continues to be good. Martinez Campos against orders had gone up the valley of Bastan to the F. frontier & is obliged to communicate thro’ Bayonne with the Govt however as yet he is [not] successful. Later came the Bauers, A. Weil and Nicolas & Louise Aylton.
