18 April 1876 — Madrid
Tuesday. 18th April [1876]. We had quite decided to go tonight to Alicante when Henry got a letter from Mr Knollys saying the P. of Wales intends to come to Madrid next Tuesday so we had to put off our journey & remain to prepare. Henry wrote at once to ask Ct Morphy to come & see him but he did not turn up till late in the afternoon. Mr Morier had settled to start for Lisbon tonight so we dined at 7 to let him go to the 8.40 train. In the afternoon Mmes Hunt, Phipps & Walsham came to call to bid me goodbye & learnt that we were not going. Nelly came & drew. Quiet eveng & I cut out the ornaments for a small repostero.
