19 April 1876 — Madrid
Wednesday. 19th [April 1876]. Emilia Riaño came to see me in the morng to hear all our news. Heard in the morng that the Hatzfeldts had recd news that their little boy was dangerously ill of brain fever or typhus & that therefore Mme Hatzfeldt was going off to Paris this afternoon. I went to see her & bid her good bye. Then went to see Ida Bauer & talked to her abt the Prince’s coming & what gowns I should be likely to want. Then called for Emilia & we went out together. I called on the Dss de la Torre to consult her & then we went to a dress maker called “Isolina.” She proposes to make me a yellow silk ball dress trimmed with black tulle embroidered with straw & garlands of poppies & was to charge 6000rs (£60 guineas). I chose a bonnet for 600rs & left the dress unsettled.
