19 June 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 19th [June 1876]. Went with Mrs Burr to the Lido to bathe. In the afternoon we went to S. Trovaso to paint—& at 5 Henry fetched us & we went to call on Mrs Montalva in the hopes of seeing the paintings of her daughters who are very clever artists. They were not in wh was a disappointment—the more as they live far off at the Albergo National beyond the Arsenal. On returning home we found they had been to call on us. In the eveng Mrs Burr, Henry & I went to walk on the Piazza while the band was playing & there we met the Montalva’s & the youngest daughter seemed very pretty & paints well but not like the elder sister.
