23 June 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd [June 1876]. Very dull day—no sketching. Went out at 1 to Salvates & to call on the Edens & found them in. They are staying at P. Loredan. Went on to an antiquarian Clerle behind the Piazza & bought old silk. Went into S. Marks & met Gonzalvo who took us into the chapel of S. Isidoro where he keeps his paintings & showed them us. Went to a photo shop for Mrs Burr to buy some Home by ½ past 4. Mr Malcolm dined with us. Adl Cerruti called on us after dinner & sat chatting & smoking on the terrace till 9. We went out in gondola & hearing that Css Pisani had come to town & had called while we were at dinner we went to see her—Mrs Burr going on to hear music under giardinetto. It came on to rain & lighten so we called her in & sent the gondola for the felse—& came home. There was a heavy thunderstorm. It had been dull & showery all day.
