29 June 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 29th [June 1876]. Henry & I bathed. At 2 Mrs Burr & I went to S. Marks to draw. Found it was the feast of St Peter & the old sacristre did not want to let us in to the chapel but he relented & let us in telling us sit out of sight. At 5 Henry fetched us & we went to call on Mrs Anthony Montalba & her 2 daughters to see their drawings. Miss Clara showed us hers wh were all water colour or pen & ink done in the most masterly way—rapidly to give glased effects. The other daughter showed us an oil picture of Venetian girls at a well—very creditable. After dinner we took Mrs Burr for her last row & then gave her tea & she started to leave by the 11 o’cl train at night for Munich wh she will reach at 6 P.M. tomorrow. After dinner Mme Marcello & several of her children called. In the afternoon Brown called.
