5 July 1876 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Wednesday. 5th July [1876]. Had tea in our room at 8. Sat talking in the gallery with Genl P. Abt 10 Mme Pisani appeared & took us to see the stables & the dependancies—kitchen &c. There is a long arcade wh runs the whole length of the house & its dependancies where it was cool for summer & sheltered for winter. We waited breakfast for the Ct P. who had gone on business to Este & at 11.30 sat down without him—but he soon after came. We went after breakfast to the gallery & Mme Pisani sent for the Curé’s sister to play the piano to us & she banged away in good earnest. I sang some Spanish songs. At 2 we started for a drive to Este & left there by 2.55 train for Venice which we reached at 5 after a very hot journey. We rowed out after dinner as usual.
