11 July 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 11th [July 1876]. Went with Hill to Lido. Bathed with Marcellos. Brown called at 12 & brought a queer English lady to be introduced calling herself Countess in Bermani– She is now married to an Italian. Sells antiquities & is a sculptress. Abt middle age with golden hair very frizzy & a cotton kind of dressing gown—altogether queer looking. At 2 Henry & I went to St Marks—being the day of the “Apparition of St Mark” the palla was uncovered & we saw it– I went to paint in the chapel. When I came home found the Cerrutis calling. [illegible word] after dinner.
