22 July 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [July 1876]. At 1 Henry & I went to call by appointment on Pss Giovanelli. She is a rather handsome woman tall & immensely fat—but pleasant & talkative– We went on to call on Css Brandolini’s & found her in & met a good many people also calling there. Ct Brandolini showed us over their Palace wh was bought from Gourieff by a brother of the owner who made it a present to him under the condition that he shd inhabit it during some part of the year. It is very magnificently furnished but not in the best taste. I went on to S Trovaso. After dinner we had a visit from the 2 Admirals & they took me to the Piazza later where we all went to take ices. We today concluded the bargain for 2 pictures. One a small Corparno from Richetti we gave 200 fcs for—the other a Paris Bordone of Sr Marcarto for 1000 fcs wh represents Christ baptising an imprisoned doge. The Marcello children called after dinner.
