23 July 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 23rd [July 1876]. Not very well & got up late. In the afternoon Henry, Maffei & I went out to call on the Papadopolis & saw the Css Maddalena (the mother) a good many people were calling– We left other cards & then came home. After dinner Adl Acton called to tell us that he had news that Minghetti was coming tomorrow so we begged him to bring him to dine with us tomorrow– He took me & Morelli in his gondola to the Piazza. There was such a crowd that we could neither find places at the Giardinetto nor at Florians so we had to go to the Cafe Aurora next where the ices were far superior to Florians only it is not fashionable.
