24 July 1876 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 24th [July 1876]. After breakfast Prince Giovannelle & Marquis Dadda called—then called Mocenigo of St Stae. I left home with Henry & went out to paint at S. Trovaso—but it became cloudy & at 4 Henry fetched me away. We went to Salviati & had there some lemonade. It was very hot & oppressive. When we got home found the Marcello children here come to tea with Hill—& soon after Mme Brandolini came with her 2 children—a boy of 6 & a little girl of 2½. They all went away & then arrived Acton & Minghetti & we sat down to dinner at 6. Minghetti is a tall thin man with pleasant face, white hair & very agreeable– Directly after dinner Morelli had to leave as he goes by 7.50 train to Rome to vote at the Senate abt the Punti francher. We went out on the gondola but as a storm threatened we deposited Maffei at the Piazzetta & came home– There was a heavy thunderstorm.
