28 August 1876 — Blackheath
Monday. 28th [August 1876]. Letter from Mrs Austen saying she expected us to go & see her today abt 1. We went up by train to London & paid a long visit to Mrs Austen. Went on to 7 Fitzroy Sqre to lunch with Lady Eastlake. Offered to lend her our house at Venice this next winter. Went on to Hamilton Hse—all out– Went to see new rooms at the National Gallery. Met there Sir James Hudson. He told Henry that he yesterday saw the P. of Wales who spoke warmly of Henry & his visit to Madrid. Met also Mr & Mrs Tom Hughes– Went back to Hamilton Hse—as they were still out, we waited. I had a talk with Mrs Dundas B’s monthly nurse. Began tea when B & Edward, Ivor & Cornelia, Adeline, the M & S all came in. We had to go before 6 to get back home for dinner. Ivor & C go on to Scotland tonight.
