30 August 1876 — Blackheath
Wednesday. 30th [August 1876]. I worked all the morning at some slippers for Henry. My mother came down for lunch. Miss Berkeley called before lunch & Henry went to town. My mother stayed talking & working till 5 when I dressed & went up to town with her by train. I left her at Garlants hotel in Suffolk St where she & S are staying & then went on to dine with Monty at 1 St James’ St where he at present lodges. Found him in & not dressed for dinner. Henry joined me & dressed for dinner in Monty’s rooms—Mr & Mrs Hambro & Miss Stuart & Arthur dined there also. Adeline was prevented not being well. We had an amusing dinner but had to leave very soon after in order to catch the 10.30 train to return to Blackheath.
