10 September 1876 — Milton Court, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Sunday. 10th [September 1876]. Alice told us that she had been up all night with her boy who had a bad attack of croup. I did not go to church & remained at home with Henry, copied his letters to Lord Stratford & Lord Derby. After lunch we had post horses in the Rate’s carriage & drove over to Holmbury to see Mr Leveson Gower. Found there Lady Marian Alford—Miss Boyle—Sir J. Lacaita 2 Ladies Osborne. We met there also Ld & Lady Arthur Russell & Mr Newton– At 5.30 we went home– Found Alice anxious about the boy who was not better.
