21 September 1876 — Paris
Thursday. 21st September [1876]. After breakfast Hill & I went off to the Bon Marche where we spent 2 hours. Returned to lunch. Went out directly after lunch to try on my dresses & Adela Ettling met me there. We were kept some time. Went on to bonnet shop where we met Bss Weisweiller, Tifie & her fiancé choosing trousseau bonnets– We went afterwards to the “Lenore” but it was a horrid crowd & bustle & heat & we were glad to get out. I went to another shop to look at a winter jacket. The fashion is a long pelisse trimmed with fur & as they cost 600 fcs I had to give it up. We dined with the Weisweillers & Ettlings & there was no one else there except a nephew Mr G. Weisweiller of Frankfurt. In the evening a Russian lady & gentleman came in. They were full of an accident that had happened to them near Tarasp. The horses of their carriage took fright & backd over a precipice. The carriage rolled over & over with the lady in it. She was very little hurt. The gentleman fell out before the carriage began to roll & was not at all hurt.
