22 September 1876 — Paris
Friday. 22nd [September 1876]. Took a walk with Henry to the Palais Royal & bought some French books. Baron Weisweiller came to see us & stayed talking a long time to Henry. After dinner Henry took me to the Louvre picture gallery & we stayed there abt 2 hours & then took a fiacre & drove to the Embassy to leave some letters to go by messenger—on to leave cards on the Mendes Leals—they were out. On our return to the hotel had a visit from Mr & Mrs Goschen. She is an American and very pretty & quiet & has very little accent. At 6 we drove off to Champeaux to dine & from there went to the Palais Royal Theatre. We saw “Mon mari est è Versailles” & “Les plus heureux des trois.” Very amusing. It was excessively hot. Coming out we met the Condes de Casa Valencia (Pontons) & Conde de Pomar.
