25 September 1876 — Bordeaux
Monday. 25th [September 1876]. Left Bordeaux by 8.15 train. Found the Quesada & Ratings family in the same train– Had a full carriage. A lovely French woman went in our carriage. She had lovely jewels & a bracelet of enormous diamonds. It got very hot as we got further South. Breakfasted at Morcenx. Reached Biarritz at 1.4. The Bauers met us & drove us to Biarritz Maison Gardins wh is a splendid hotel. Found Sr Llorente, Monsr Nicolas & Mme Weil there. Had some tea & talk & then Henry, Ida, Baron Morpurgo & I went for a walk. Coming back we met Bauer, Nicolas & Llorente driving—so Henry & the latter changed places & Bauer also walked. Ida & I went to café with B. Morpurgo & had ices. We dined with the Bauers & then tertulia.
