30 September 1876 — Madrid
Saturday. 30th [September 1876]. Grau called. Finished arranging & putting things in order– Col. Fitch came & he & I & Hill went down to prepare the chapel for our new chaplain Mr Dawson wh arrives tonight & will have a service tomorrow. Had tea & went out at 4.30, took Sir J. Walsham to see the Ettling house; left some cards & came in abt 6. Sir Hy & Miss Thompson, Sir J. Walsham, Messenger Hare, & Mr Kennedy dined with us. The Thompsons are most agreeable intelligent people. She is quite young but paints & knows all about–
