13 October 1876 — Madrid
Friday. 13th October [1876]. The Dean & Mr Williamson went off at 6 o’cl: with Giovanni to Toledo. Mr Rogers came to breakfast with us. I had a headache & was not fit for much besides cutting out, arranging & working arms for colgaduras, wh I did all day without going out. Bernadine came to see me & paid me 195 for Mme la Romana for the lace I got her from Burano– Q. Isabella came to Madrid today but I did not see her– She arrived in the morng from the Escurial—drove to the Virgin de la Palma—then to breakfast at the Palace– In the afternoon she drove abt the town & went to the Atocha church. Monteverde called & said he had been looking for houses for us & had heard the D. of Trias’ house was to be sold– Silvela called & sat a long time & had tea. The Dean & Mr W. returned abt 10½ having had a pleasant day. I finished the arms & placed them on the hangings.
