13 November 1876 — Madrid | |
Monday. 13th [November 1876]. Sir John, Lady & Miss Drummond Hay arrived from Paris at 9.30. They went to rest till breakfast at 12. I took Miss Hay out driving to the Retiro in open carriage. It was muggy & disagreeable. We saw the Theatre del Circo in flames close to the Calle Barquillo. Hatzfeldt came to tea– Recd in the eveng. A good many dips: came—& besides we had the honor of having Canovas del Castillo who stayed the last of all. | |
