17 November 1876 — Madrid
Friday. 17th November [1876]. Did not go out. Esquivel came & we arranged a table with a group for me to paint as a study. Henry went out driving to make visits. I drew in the afternoon. When Henry came in he said he had met Herr Deutsch who had told him that the Bruces would be here tomorrow morng whereas we expect them on Sunday, so we settled to send the carriage to the station on the chance. Hatzfeldt came to tea & Baron de [illegible word] called—the Minister of the P. of Monaco– A fat snobby sleek spanish tradesman who has got himself named Min: Plenipotentiary to the P. of Monaco.
