21 March 1877 — Cadiz | |
Wednesday. 21st March [1877]. Silvela accompanied by a Señor Silva came to call on us at abt ¼ to 9 this morning to make arrangements with Henry abt the King’s dining on board the “Minotaur.” Henry’s cold was very bad indeed. The Adl came to see us at 10 when we again sent for Silvela– We found that it was blowing very hard & it was supposed to be impossible for the King to arrive today & it was arranged that unless H.M. arrived before 2 the dinner on the “Minotaur” wd not take place today. As Henry was not well eno’ to go out I asked Mr Reade to fetch me to take a walk—as Hatzfeldt just then came he went to walk with us. We went on the “Muralla” & the wind was so high that I had to get Hatzfeldt to help me on– The King is not arrived. Walking back to the hotel we passed a fine house wh Mr Reade said belonged to Sr Mora & at that moment Silvela who is staying with Sr Mora stopped us & made us go in to see the house– We found the master & mistress at home & paid them a visit. The house is enormous & built like all the houses here with a large courtyard & galleries round with the rooms opening into it—& glazed over– We stayed only a few minutes & then returned to the hotel & took tea I having walked abt 3 hours. After dinner Hatzfeldt came in & took tea with us. | |
