30 March 1877 — Madrid | |
Friday. 30th March [1877]. Good Friday. Began making arrangements for packing & putting things together. At 3 we went on foot to the Bauers to tell them the news wh took them greatly by surprise. We shall regret leaving them immensely it being the only house where we are intimate. They went out walking with us—but Henry had to hurry home to write & I went in with them. Ida came in with me while Bauer went on walking alone—we found such a crowd in the streets that we were glad to come home. Ittersum came to tea to talk over our departure– Our new secy Mr Gough came in to call in the evening. | |
