1 May 1877 — Constantinople
Tuesday. 1st May [1877]. Finished the maps & wrote letters to send in the bag going to England by Mr Kennett. Lady Strangford tried to prevent his going with them but he insisted on going & seemed glad to have an excuse to emancipate himself. I had a tremendous attack of neuralgia from 12.30 till 4 & had to go into my room & have it quite darkened. At 4 I had visits from several English ladies & the Italian chargé & the Greek secy. Had tea. Then visits from Mrs Baring & her sister Miss Guarracino & Mme Marinitch her sister in law. It came on to rain & they waited for the shower to be over. Dr Dickson also came– Messrs Jocelyn & Kennedy dined.
