13 July 1878 — Therapia | |
Saturday. 13th July [1878]. Wrote invitations for Mondays in the morng. Henry had to go to Yildiz directly after lunch. The Genl, Mr S & Mama went in the caique to the sweet waters to see a cricket match. Abt 3 Ahmet Vefyk P. arrived & he & I spent the afternoon in the garden. Went to the fernery & got a gardener to come & cut branches to let the holly tree breathe. Went back to the grove & had tea. Henry came back just before dinner not having seen the Sultan & being so provoked with him that he left & came home in a huff. Ahmet Vefyk stayed to dinner & at 9.30 we sent him home in the launch escorted by the General. Sultan telegraphed to beg Henry will go to him tomorrow morng. | |
