10 August 1878 — Therapia
Saturday. 10th [August 1878]. Henry went off in the steam launch to see Safvet P. directly after breakfast. I had my Turkish lesson. Ahmed Vefyk P. came to luncheon. Directly afterwards Henry went off again in the “Antelope” to S. Stefano with the General to call on Genl Todleben and did not get back till nearly dinner time. I entertained Ahmed Vefyk. Took him to walk in the garden and to sit in the grove & have tea. The d’Ehrenhoff girls went to the Candilli v Fleet cricket match at Beikos with their father. Capt. Culne Seymour, Genl Baker P., Mr Black & Mr Eyres came to dine & sleep, Mrs Fawcett dined with us so we made a party of 11. In the evening Henry, the Genl & I went in the steam launch with Ahmed Vefyk & took him home. It was a moonlit night only rather stormy. This made the 3rd time today that Henry had gone down the Bosphorus.
