8 September 1878 — Therapia
Sunday. 8th September [1878]. Henry & I took a walk after breakfast in the garden. Marquetto came with gewgaws from the Bazaars in wh Mrs Burr & Mellony invested. The Squire read the service to us. Sir Hy Drummond Wolff came to lunch & afterwards we all went in the mouche to Hyssar. I dropped the party there & went on to Candilli to call on Mrs Willie Hanson & see her new baby. She was on the sofa but had fever & was looking ill. From there I went back to Hyssar & went up to the Pashas’—found them in the library. We went into the Harem to visit the ladies & dressed up Mellony in the yashmak. Did not get home till 7. The Embassy all except Mr Ash: who is ill dined & Sir Henry D. Wolff & Mr Walpole also.
