3 September 1879 — Therapia
Wednesday. 3rd [September 1879]. Rain at last! It blew hard & there was a soaking penetrating rain all the morng. This is the 1st real rain since April. It cleared in the afternoon & the others played tennis. I did not go out. Read & wrote at home & copied music for Blanche. The Dicksons & Sir Baldwin Walker Capt. of the Helicon dined. Mr Nicholson, Bland, Oliphant & Butcher came in after dinner & we sang thro’ “Pinafore” for the Admirals edification & afterwards we adjourned to the corridor & I played while they danced bits of the cotillion. There was an attempt & failure at the rest & then we finished up by singing “rolling home” & “Three Jews” & after a very jolly eveng went to bed abt 12.
