18 January 1880 — Constantinople
Sunday. 18th [January 1880]. Wrote all the morng but did not dare go to church as it snowed & was very cold. In the afternoon it stopped for a little while and then I went out in the garden for ½ hour & walked up & down & met Mr Sartoris & Leveson Gower doing the same. Came in at 5. Mr Wrench called & sat talking for some time. At 5 oclock I had shivers &c as I had had for several days at the same hour. Mr Hunt & the Messenger Mr Woodford dined with us besides the members of the Embassy. Mr Sartoris & I played duets on harmonium & piano.
