25 May 1880 — Therapia | |
Tuesday. 25th May [1880]. Copied Henry’s letter to go by messenger. Mrs Walker came abt 11 and gave me a last painting lesson & I finished up Kathleen’s portrait & Jerry’s. Mrs Millingen, Mme Parnis & Dr Patterson came to take leave. Safvet P. came also and stayed to luncheon & seemed really very sorry at our departure & Henry says he kissed his shoulder in Turkish style in the tenderest manner when they separated. I painted till 4 & then went out in the garden with Henry & we had tea there. Mrs Walker went off to pay visits & then returned with Mr Curtis her brother & they sat in the garden with us a little while. I went over the china &c with Giovanni & settled what we shd leave Mr Goschen. Gave up the books for packing. Mr Sartoris, Mr Philips & Dr Brown (both of the Antelope) & Mr Maxwell (the new attaché) dined with us. Susan Hambro’s box of summer things arrived & we shall send it back to her to Malta tomorrow. | |
