6 June 1880 — En route to Venice
Sunday. 6th [June 1880]. The rolling abated & I was able to get up to breakfast & we found that as the Capt. (Sir Baldwin Walker) was not sure of getting to Venice by sunset he had given up the attempt & “eased down” so that we shall not get in till day break tomorrow. There was much less movement in consequence. There was service for the men read by the Capt. wh we joined in– Read most of the day. Thunderstorms in the afternoon & it got too cool to sit out after dinner.
