20 June 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Sunday. 20th June [1880]. Not feeling well I remained in bed till after luncheon. After morng church Blanche came & sat with me. When I went down after 3 o’cl. I found Henry Eliot calling—then came Maria, Arthur Burr, John Ashburnham, Mr Nicolson & Mr Oliphant. When they were gone Henry & I went off in the brougham to the Grosvenor Gallery to a reunion given there by the Lindsays. There were a great many people one knew viz swells & artists– The Pss of Wales & her little girls, the King of Greece & the Dk & Dss of Connaught were there. I had not time to look at the pictures there were so many to talk to. We stayed only a short time & then I went to Lady Somers & Henry to Miss Duff Gordons & he fetched me afterwards. We had a long talk with the Somers over our possible prospects. We returned home to dinner—& spent a quiet eveng.
