25 June 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Friday. 25th June [1880]. Mrs Poynter called to see me in the morning. Blogg the diamond merchant came & we consulted abt spending the £100 for wh my horse sold. Henry came in & laughed at me. I was tired & vexed & did not go to luncheon but afterwards went down to fetch Henry at Mr A. Morrison’s where I met Sir Wm Drake & Castellani. We saw the last cabinet made for Mr A. Morrison wh cost him £10,000 wh I did not much admire. He showed us his wife’s lace & room &c– The whole house is full of splendid things but has a parvenu or nouveau riche air. I took Henry to the Club & while waiting for him I saw Mr Rate & also the Bishop of Gibraltar. We called on the Clarks who were out. We dined with Blanche & Edward & met Gracie & Mr Hugh Lowther, Mrs Wm Ponsonby, Miss St Aubyn, May Ponsonby & Mr Nicolson. Had a very good little dinner all very well managed–
