8 July 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Thursday. 8th July [1880]. Expected Blossett to come & see me but she did not turn up. I did not go out till after lunch. Emilia Riaño came here at 3.30 & she & I drove together. We went to Mrs Rates to see how she was getting on with her preparations for this evening’s dance. We went on to Lady Somers’ whom I saw for a minute & then to leave cards elsewhere & to Walker & Miltons’ to choose a hat for Mme Mantilla & I took it to the F.O. & sent it off by messenger to Consple. I then took Emilia to Eccleston Square & came home myself. We dined at Lady Avelands & met Huntly & his wife & Mr Turner & Mary T. & 2 other people whose name I did not catch. It was a very pleasant little dinner. We went on to the Rates to a small dance they gave & were there one hour.
