10 August 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Tuesday. 10th August [1880]. Maria & Carrie Somes came to luncheon & also Temmie (Mrs Austin) also Mr Crawford the Consul in Lisbon. He promised to send us a new book on Portugal. After 4 Blanche called to fetch me to drive out with her & we did some shopping & then came in to tea at her house & went out again afterwards. We met Monty in the street as we came out of Marshall & Snelgroves & B. bid him to bring her some fruit for dessert as he was dining with her. Henry & I dined with her & also Susan Hambro & Monty & we had a very pleasant little party. In the eveng we sang together & were very merry. Just as Monty was going off to the house Mr Otway arrived. He had not been able to dine but came in the eveng & after Monty was gone & Susan also Blanche sang to him & I also sang Gruss dem Walde in wh he joined as chorus & delighted in.
