11 August 1880 — Langham House, Portland Place
Wednesday. 11th [August 1880]. I went off before 11 o’clock to Blanches & after spending a few minutes there walked under Edward’s escort to Monty’s chambers at 3 Savile Row & sat with him while he breakfasted & we had a long chatter over many family affairs. When he had finished we walked out together down Bond Street & then to Berkeley Square to look at a house that is there for sale– We then went to look at a house in Charles St & then to the House Agent’s in Mount St. From there I went home in a hansom & got a maid to go with me to the dentist’s. I met Henry there & walked home with him in time for luncheon. Afterwards Mamma took Henry to see Wellington Barracks chapel where she intends putting up a tablet to the memory of Lord Lindsey her father who was a long time in the Guards. Then he came back & fetched me & we went to enquire at Mrs Austen’s & Henry went in & saw her & he said she seemed to know him & was better in mind tho’ not in body than the last time he saw her. We did some more shopping & then came home. Maria & Richard, Alice & Dacre Du Cane, Blanche & Edward Ponsonby, Arthur Guest & Monty dined at Langham House & Nellie Alderson– Henry dined at Lord Granville’s, but came home early.
