27 August 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday 27th August [1880]. Took my 5th bath. Henry was not very well & could not go with me so I went with Hill. It was a dull day. Sat & worked & read till 3.30. Minghetti came again to return the paper & sat & talked some time on Italian politics & finances & then went off for his bath. We went out in the gondola to some of the antiquary shops & saw at Richetti’s some fine old tapestries wh Henry thought would be nice for Merthyr to buy for his new house at Henstridge & I wrote him a long letter abt them. We dined at 7 & then went on the Piazza to walk & ended up by sitting in the Giardino to hear the music. Home at 10.
